What you need to know about Nipah Virus

The Nipah virus (NiV) is a rare but serious zoonotic virus that can be transmitted from animals to humans. Fruit bats are the natural host, and while human-to-human transmission is limited, outbreaks can have severe consequences if not identified early.

Where has it been reported?

A small cluster of Nipah virus cases has recently been reported in India.

How does Nipah virus present?

Infected individuals typically present with fever and respiratory symptoms. In more severe cases, the virus can progress to encephalitis. Reported fatality rates range between 40–75%.

Since there is no approved vaccine or specific antiviral treatment for Nipah virus, clinical management relies on supportive care.

How is Celtic supporting the response?

In collaboration with our partners YouSeq and Altona, Celtic provides rapid and sensitive Research Use Only (RUO) molecular kits designed for early detection.
